Fiber Fun

Fiber I played with last weekend, minus the fleece that I dyed and the picker which will be in a post tomorrow! Finally starting to feel better so I'm back to fiber fun today! I have to finish 4 swaps I'm doing as well, all fiber fun ones, so be on the look out for 25 hearts, 40 granny daughters, magic yarn ball, and spinning fiber swap.

Inexpensive Earthquake Friendly Art

Supplies:
A piece of plywood, or some sort of inexpesive wood $3
Yarn (mine was destash so free) $2
Paint (again destash) $1
Nails (hubby had them) $3
------------------------
Total: $9-ish

I had to cut my piece of wood (hence the bottom yikes but oh well) in half, you will see use of the other half tomorrow. Then paint any color you would like. I did red to go along with the kids orange, red, and yellow bathroom. Once dry measure out your design, this case was a square. Mark every place that needs a nail, don't worry about being straight it makes it more interesting.
Once everything is marked hammer in nails enough that the stay in place. Then wrap yarn any way you like!

Once you are done place against wall and hammer in the nails. Yes I did every single one because this earthquake country! I have had to many things fall and I refuse for this to be one of them. I of course may hate myself when we sell, or I'll leave it for the next owner ha! If you don't want that many holes just hammer in corners and it will stay.

Magnets & Works-in-progess

For awhile I was in a mood where all I wanted to do was lay on the couch and not craft. It annoyed me, but I figured I needed the rest for some reason (found out that horrible reason this morning). Luckily last weekend I got in the mood again to craft! I wasn't in the mood however to spin or crochet so I decided to make some magnets. I used some tetris perler beads I did awhile back, and also made some out of flower arrangement marbles. The tiny magnets I bought are insane strong, I can't keep them away from each other! The big ones don't do that as bad thankfully, and most of those are already being used on the fridge. The rest are going to be used in my area once I get a magnetic board from Ikea this weekend ($5 heck yeah!).

Magnets

My works in progress are the same from my birthday post. The yellow socks, and spinning that wonderful BFL roving. I just barely picked up the socks yesterday, but I'm close to finishing thankfully. I spun for awhile last night while watching Master Chef, and I am about 2 oz into the 4 oz I bought. I also have another project that has been going on for probably a month now, which is just sad because it's so simple. It's a Big Bang Theory cross stitch, my mom taught me to cross stitch when I was little but I'm just now using again. If I would have sat down one night and did nothing but this cross stitch I would have finished that night, but no I get bored to easy so I can't do that. So here it is, less than half way done, poor Howard has no head! Next is Lenard and Sheldon on the other side of Penny.

Cross stitch WIP

GOALS: I'm setting goals every week from now on! So my goal for this week is to finish everything! The socks, spinning, and the cross stitch. Everything done by Sunday where I will then pick up new projects for next week. Sounds like a great plan!

Finished Poncho & Buttons

I finally finished Caroline's Easter poncho with the Easter yarn I dyed and spun. I could have finished it alot quicker than I did since it was such an easy pattern but for some reason I took my time with it. I finished today though, and she does look pretty cute in it if I do say so myself! She is going to wear it tomorrow to Jase to school and to show the ladies at Starbucks (yes the ladies at Starbucks know us by name and have our order for us when we get there, our "town" is super small though compared to surrounding ones so they know all the regulars). She loves wearing it so I'm sure it's going to be a daily thing for my girly girl, she even figured out how to put it on herself this afternoon. I still have about 100 yards left over in Easter, so I may crochet something for Jase, maybe a tie...cute! Yes a tie it is if I can find a pattern on Ravelry. I'm spinning his yarn right now, but no ideas yet on what to crochet with it.
Jase came over right when I snapped a picture, hence the funny look on Caroline's face

Sigh my kids move way to much! You have no idea how many photos i took of them trying to get one decent one!
My kids

Tonight I also randomly chose to make paper covered buttons. As you know I am a craftster addict, and while bored the other day I started watching their YouTube videos. I watched two that interested me, one of which is making fabric buttons and the other using Perler beads. I thought it would be a nice spice into my fabric crafting right now so I'm doing both except I bought cheap paper instead of fabric. The buttons turned out pretty cute, the butterfly one was a pain in the *** though so I only did one of those. My favorite is by far the black and white ones, which why there are so many of them!
Paper Buttons

Now the Perler beads I haven't started yet, but I did do them when I was alot younger. In fact my mom still has all of the ones I made (she kept everything of mine, seriously everything!) They are super easy, and I am probably going to let the kids do them as well, I let them do any craft so why not! If you don't know what they are or want to try them check them out (you can buy them anywhere) Perler Beads

Cold Rainy Days

It's cold and rainy here, I swear the seasons are behind in this state! Spring and summer are cold, fall and winter are hot. It's weird! But I digress... (every time I say that I see Sophia from the Golden Girls in my head) So with kids not being able to play outside they are going crazy. I pulled out all of our craft supplies to see what they wanted to do, and sure enough both wanted to paint. They love mixing the paint, and I got some pretty psychedelic photos with it!

Dont you love my dead flowers? haha They are gone now

Obsessed Much!?

Make your own Playdough & Finger paint

If you have never done this go do it now! I love this playdough, as do the kids, and I haven't bought store playdough in years. This recipe is the best for it :

2 cups flour
2 cups warm water
1 cup salt
2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
1 Tablespoon cream of tartar (optional for improved elasticity)

food coloring (liquid, powder, or unsweetened drink mix)

I also make them finger paint which is another super easy recipe:

2 cups white flour
2 cups cold water
food coloring

What a Wonderful Weekend Part 2 (365 Project)

After our trip I came home to my order of fiber from The Sheep Studio, a whole pound of Superwash to dye! I of course had to let my kids help, so I gave them each 4 oz of it to dye with kool aid, they picked the colors themselves, and all I did was just get everything ready. Jase wasn't in the mood for pictures so none of him, just Caroline.

I also finished my yarn that I have been spinning finally and plyed it with sewing thread. I love it to death and I plan on crocheting something for Caroline with it.

Wet Felting: So easy a Toddler can do it

Yesterday I was in the mood to make my felt with the colorful roving I got off Etsy. After watching a video on YouTube on how to make it I realized it's so easy my kids can help! For my new followers my kids are 3 and 1, so if they can do it any age can do it!

What you need:
Wool roving at least 1/2 oz or more ($1.50 on Etsy or cheaper)
Bubble wrap ($5 or free if you have it like we did!)
Towel (free)
Tulle (the video says you need it, and we did use it because I had some but I thought it was easier without it myself)
Bowl
Warm-to-hot water
Dishsoap (but go for a free and clear, we used Pamolive)
The video shows her using a dog brush to pull apart the wool, there is no need for this, just gently pull the roving and tuffs will come off.

Total Cost: $1.50-$8 depending on what you need to get from the list

And here is our felt this morning after left out over night to dry!

DIY Sewing Room Wall Decor (or kid craft)

Since my little area is getting gutted and re done with a computer area and sewing/craft area I was in the mood for some sewing decor. Problem is I'm cheap and didn't want to pay for some of the things I found. So I thought about what I had laying around in my craft area and came up with this super easy craft. Even if you don't craft you can do this or you can do this with your kids!

What you need:
Canvas (any size)
Paint
Buttons
Glue (I used a hot glue gun)

Paint the canvas any color(s) you want. My area is mainly black, white, and grey so I went with those colors. Once dry place your buttons in a pattern you like, and then glue down. DONE!
