Yarn Ball Wreath AKA Knitting Wreath

I saw this idea back in Texas when we made a trip to wonderful Hobby Lobby. The one they had was huge though, probably about two feet across, seriously! I thought it was a great way to use up stash yarn, and lucky me had two colors that go great with my craft area. The display one also had knitting needles in it, but since mine was tiny I chose to destash two crochet hooks. I was smart though and just stuck them in the yarn, no glue at all, so if I need them I can get them out. For the bottom frame I actually took my fruit bowl, an ikea box, a box cutter, and cut around the fruit bowl. Done! I probably should have painted it grey though since you can see part of it, but I think I may just end up adding tiny yarn balls so you can't see it.

Total Cost: Free

Anyway here is the finished product! It's so dark where it is I messed with settings on my camera forever but never got the perfect up close. Till finally I just gave up!

365: Day 36

Last night i turned on Fame (I love that movie) and crafted for hours! I made sooo many pincushions I doubt I will ever need more! But I love making them so much I will probably end up making more. Tonight I'm spinning more yarn, and crocheting stuffies for the kids. I love my craft area soo much!

Even used the felt the kids and i made!

365: Day 30-31 Thrift store finds

I have been so busy re-doing my craft area that I slacked in the blogging and 365 areas. I am back though! So here are the two days that i missed (plus 2!), today's photo later, and I should be on here sometime to show y'all a new easy craft.

These photos show a sneak peak into my craft area, which i am not quite ready to show.

I got two of these tea cups for a $1 and I am going to make pincushions out of them

The front little bowl was a $1 and I got 4 of those cups for $2! Again for pincushins

I got two metal plates for $2 to hold my beads while I make things

And this server is my fav! $4! (Love my horrible huge pincushion? I messed up on it and thought "oh well!")

I also got some wonderful vintage crochet thread never used! The dates on it say 1963 & 1964, and they are in wonderful yellow and orange! Can't wait to crochet with them!

Have a crafty day!

DIY Sewing Room Wall Decor (or kid craft)

Since my little area is getting gutted and re done with a computer area and sewing/craft area I was in the mood for some sewing decor. Problem is I'm cheap and didn't want to pay for some of the things I found. So I thought about what I had laying around in my craft area and came up with this super easy craft. Even if you don't craft you can do this or you can do this with your kids!

What you need:
Canvas (any size)
Paint
Buttons
Glue (I used a hot glue gun)

Paint the canvas any color(s) you want. My area is mainly black, white, and grey so I went with those colors. Once dry place your buttons in a pattern you like, and then glue down. DONE!

365: Day 14

Sewing project, alittle to much stuff on one side, I need to fix that by getting hubby to make me a thread holder! I made this just to hold sewing stuff so little hands could not reach

365: Day 13

My favorite decor in the house sits on top of the entertainment center. Candles on a silver tray surrounded by quirky dachshunds that i collect, my art one is my favorite for right now :)

Resolutions 2011

With sick kids I'm behind on this, but late is better than never right?! I also woke up yesterday and chose to paint my little area, so I was busy with that. But here is what I would like to do for 2011:

365 Project: I started this last year but with school, moving, etc I didn't have time to keep up with it, so here we go again! I'm already doing it so yay me!

Get Healthy: Dermographism, according to my doctors, makes my immune system weak which is why I catch every single tiny thing now. So I need to get healthy, and I really let myself go during the holidays which is bad.  It will help my whole "get sick every week" crap I have had going on lately.

Work out more: I hate working out, 100% hate it! But I know it will aid in the get healthy thing so I need to! I wish I had time to go swim, because it's the only thing I enjoy, plus it burns sooo much more calories than anything else.

I am also going to make everything single thing in two sewing books I got for Christmas from my mom. I really want to get alot better at sewing, which I have been working on, and everything in these books are so cute I must make them! There is a ton more I want to do craft wise this year, but we would be here forever if I listed those :)

I hope you all have a great 2011!

If you want to check out those sewing books she got them on Amazon:

Vintage Dresser Make-over

A month ago we re-did our vintage dresser that was a blah white that didn't match our style at all. Under the white was a really nice wood, back in the 50's they used real wood to make furniture wish we could say that now days!, so we stained it with a dark ebony stain. The hardware for small drawers were easy to find, but for the big drawers, it was an issue. Finally I found some and they just came in today! So here is the final look to our 1950's dresser! Now on to the bed that matches....

BEFORE:
Sloan was already taken drawers before I could get a quick picture!

AFTER:

It's actually more black than the photos came out, I'm being lazy and just snapped them quick without setting changes or anything on my camera...no editing either :)

Kitchen Changes & Vintage Finds

This was my wall since we moved into our house exactly 6 months ago:
Very blah nothing special and the photos constantly slanted, drove me crazy! So I got the idea to add a shelf to the wall to add something to it so it would not be so blah. I then went on a hunt for something coffee related but vintage, since my kitchen theme is my addiction...coffee! At our towns adorable Antique store I found these little cuties telling me to take them home.

That coffee grinder is in insanely perfect condition, I don't think it was ever used, and I think it sparked a new addiction! (No Kendra you already collect cameras, you are good, no more collections!!!)

With those finds and a new shelf came this:

I wish I could have the table centered but then I can't easily get into the cabinets and my coffee, so it has to stay where it is. I love my wall though :)

I also found this awesome black vase, but I am unsure what to do with it at the moment. I put my knitting needles in it since I can't get rid of them and I am in hopes I think of a cute way to use it.

Craft Rooms

I am addicted to looking at other people's craft rooms to see what they did with their space. Although my area is not a room but an area off the living room i still look for inspiration from these spaces. It seems to me that majority of craft rooms are all about white though, and I am all about black. None the less i still love to look at them, and get ideas! After Christmas i am going to work on my space some since we are turning our huge laundry room (the door is behind my desk) into Sloan's "man cave". So, I am starting now on my inspiration board! Here is my space at the moment with my randomly places Christmas lights and mini tree.

This is looking in from the living room, we have tile that runs along side the living room and into here. Through the door is the laundry room that is probably three times the size of my space! The paintings and photographs are all by me, and you can see the cork board i just made! The rug is new from Wal-mart, had it for not even ten minutes before Jase colored the corner of it pink...sigh.

This is my desk, you can tell i am more of a photographer majority of the time! The orange laptop stand use to be my only "area" in NC and now is used at my portable work station.

Where everything is stored! The black basket on the right is full of yarn and my crochet things, the one to the left is all my random craft things that i do.

The most important spot in my area is of course Peanuts! He sits next to my chair against the wall and my filing cabinet is next to him. He is by my side all day and enjoys a good nap while I craft or work :)

So what do i want to add? Well move the bookcase next the door either side, not sure yet, and in place add these things all from IKEA. Of course the paintings and such would moved. All this for under $125! Awesome!
